Blog Series Part 1- Getting to Know Jason Hastie

JASON'S BIO

 

Growing up in rural Saskatchewan, Jason Hastie’s love of country music came very natural.  He began playing and singing music at the age of five.  “It’s always been a part of me and it satisfies me in a way nothing else does,” says Jason.

Music may be a huge part of who he is, but it’s not the only area that plays a major role in Jason’s life.  After completing high school, he enrolled in an Engineering program at University, only to quit after the first semester.  Jason knew this was not the path that was going to fulfill him and returned to his first love of music.  He spent time traveling with a Christian-affiliated band throughout the United States.  But after a year, Jason knew he needed to return to school so he entered the business faculty and set his sights on a Chartered Accountant designation.

After completing both his undergrad and Masters degrees, Jason worked at a local firm in Saskatoon, Hergott Duval Stack & Partners.  Although content at the firm, Jason craved a new challenge.  He made the move to Calgary, Alberta.  Jason states, “Alberta just seemed like it had such a business-oriented, entrepreneurial culture -- that has always appealed to me, so it made sense to make a move”.

After working at another firm for a short while, Jason’s entrepreneurial side moved to the forefront and he started his own financial consulting business.  After setting up his company and regaining some spare time in his life, Jason realized how much he missed making music.  He started carving out a solo career as a country artist and even had a couple of successful singles on Canadian Country radio.  But, after a suggestion by his manager to form a duo with another then-solo artist, Abbey Powell, the rest, as they say … is history: Six West was formed.

In addition to his careers as musician and Chartered Accountant, Jason also spends his time working on a personal financial planning book, he’s a certified scuba-diver, runs half-marathons, and has also spent time doing some acting.
